In addition to "HypnoBirthing®: A Celebration of Life" by Marie Mongan, which you receive as part of your HypnoBirthing® classes, you might want to check out the following books as well.

"Childbirth Without Fear"

This is the book that started it all, by Dr. Grantly Dick-Read. Even if you don't take the HypnoBirthing® classes, read this book!

Order Childbirth Without Fear

Dr. Grantly Dick-Read's book "Childbirth Without Fear" has been out of print for years, and second hand copies are currently selling for anything up to £150 on Amazon MarketPlace.

However, we recently discovered that a UK publisher is doing a world-wide re-issue on September 6th 2004. On their website you can read the introduction from Michel Odent and a review by Andrea Robertson, one of the world's leading experts on childbirth education.

"Toddler Taming - A Parent's Guide To The First Four Years"

For all parents with kids under four, this is entertaining and highly informative reading.

Order Toddler Taming

Many parents wonder how their sweet baby which gurgled happily at them for the first 12 months changes so suddenly into a bellowing, tantrum prone, carpet biting toddler. What went wrong? Whose fault is it? What can be done about it?

With humour and common sense, Dr Green answers these questions and many others like them. He qualms fears of "abnormal" bad behaviour, points out the strains of bringing children up and offers practical advice on all fronts from discipline to sleeping problems, tantrums to toilet training.

Even if your child is not yet a toddler, order "Toddler Taming" today - it's brilliant!

"The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics: A Philosophy for Achieving a Radiant Mind and Fabulous Body"

An excellent, witty, irreverent and well-written introduction to macriobiotics, and the benefits it can bring to the body, mind and soul.

A modern girl's guide to the ancient secrets of eating for health, beauty and peace of mind.

Macrobiotics has become the latest trend in dieting, thanks to high-profile supporters like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow. Speaking to the generation of young women looking to extend their healthy lifestyles beyond yoga and Pilates, macrobiotic chef and instructor Jessica Porter offers fresh, contemporary, and accessible insight into one of the world's oldest, yet most popular, diets.

She explains that by eating good quality whole foods, any woman can experience physical, sensory, emotional, and intellectual freedom.

The effects of eating a macrobiotic diet can extend beyond basic health to weight loss, beauty, better sex, and peace of mind. Cooking tips and recipes are combined with Jessica's no-nonsense philosophy and witty anecdotes to create a lifestyle book that will inspire women to hit the kitchen with an understanding of how to strengthen their minds and bodies through food.

All the above links are worth reading, even if you don't buy the book. One item that caught my eye on the last link was this:

Case 1: the nurse charted complete cervical dilation, a head engaged in the pelvis, and the mother pushing well. The obstetrician wrote he performed the cesarean because the mother was 6 centimeters dilated and the head was high. The father remembered overhearing the obstetrician tell someone on the telephone to go ahead to the party; he would be there soon.
