Hypnobirthng second time

Hello Ladies,

I am new to the boards but am a second time Mum to be. I used hypnobirthing to great effect first timeround (2 years ago) and plan to do the same with this baby (due May). My son came prematurely at 31 weeks so a lot of what I had hoped for was not possible and also the shock and concern was a huge factor in my experience. Never the less, we used the techniques we had practiced and I found the labour very managable. The only bit I struggled with was the crowning and the stinging sensation that came with it but really my experience was very positive. My son was in Neonatal for 6 weeks but was fine and didn't even need to be ventilated and maintained a very steady and relaxed heartbeat throughout labour which I attribute to the fact that I was so relaxed.

What I wanted to ask was if second time Mums simply do the cd's and re-read the book or if they attend the course again? I have found it much harder to find time to listen to the cds and practice as bedtime seems to be my best breaktime and I tend to fall asleep. I do feel more confident having done it once but am sure I will be nervous of the crowning again if I don't get plenty of practice in.

Please share your experiences of second time hypnobirthing. I would love to hear from you.

Warm regards,
Becs x x

Hi,
I found it harder the second time round to fit the practicing in, I usually did it when my older child had a nap. I teach HB so never did the classes but recommend that you start listening to the cd and read the book to remind yourself, and start practicing the breathing. Check with your practitioner to see if she/he will let you sit in on their next classes for a reduced rate.
