I'm taking the Hypnobirthing course in Northampton at the end of July and thinking ahead to what I'll need to do to get started attracting/teaching couples. I'm a hynpobirthing mum and I've just handed in my notice for my Art teaching job (eek!
Any help or advice on the following points would be greatly appreciated...
- I'm in Cumbria so travelling quite far with my baby and husband to take the course in July and so was considering doing the Birth Basics home study course. I understand this isn't ideal but I will be teaching full-time up until October so will miss the chance to do the two-day BB course in Stirling in September and I'm really keen to get going with teaching HB. Has anyone had any experience with the home study course? Is it worth ordering this from now the US before the live course (postage/delivery times?) so I can complete it straight after?
- Will I be at much of a disadvantage by not being a hypnotherapist/birthing professional? As I say I'm really passionate about HB and I'm doing lots of reading and research to expand my knowledge of birth and hypnotherapy (and I also have great support/ongoing advice from my local midwife) but is it worth completing other hypnotherapy courses (Open University etc?) Would it be expected that I charged less per couple because of this?
- Is it worth setting up a website? I was planning on just advertising locally until I get going then perhaps broaden the distance I'd travel to clients once I had more experience.
- How do the handouts/cd's/books work on a practical level? Do you pre-order them in bulk (as I've heard they take a while to be delivered) and then give them out to couples as part of the course charge? Are there any other start-up costs like this that I'd need to consider?
- Do the majority of practicioners teach the course in the couple's own home? I imagined doing one-to-one sessions at client's homes then perhaps hiring a room and doing multiple couples at a time if it takes off? What have you found works best?
- What is the 'nest' that people have mentioned on this forum? Do they give any business/marketing advice on how to get started during the course? How much cpd do you need to do to renew membership each year (I'm thinking about travelling/costs to go and complete other courses)
Apologies for the long post and if any of these questions will be addressed during the course in Northampton, I guess I'm just excited and raring to go now but not sure about the practicalites!
Thank you in advance for any replies/advice
Jenny
