Can I teach myself once I have done practitioner training?

Postby SJH1511 » Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:06 pm

Hi

I really want to train as a practioner (my friends who have had hypnobirths have all said how amazing it was vs. non hypnobirths and I would really like to be able to pass on these skills) I am really interested in the Northampton course in April. I am however expecting my first child (July) and was planning to attend hypnobirthing classes in preperation for my babies birth. However, if I do the practitioner course in April is it possible to teach myself the techniques and therefore not have to do the hypnobirth classes? I wouldn't be able to stretch to both and am looking for advice as to where my money is best placed at the moment.

Thanks
Sara

Yes.

I learnt HypnoBirthing in 2002, taught a few couples and then used it for my babies births in 2004 and 2006.

You might need someone else to do the fear release with you and just make sure you teach your birth companion all the techniques.

Good luck.

Hi Sara,
As Danielle says, you can teach yourself. I did it for my third baby, but to be honest, I've alwasy regretted it slightly. My main regret was that my partner wasn't on the course with me, but also, I didn't "experience" quite a few parts, such as the baby bonding, thinking through the empowerment issues, the stage part of the fear release (although I did arrange a fear release seperately). I think it is worth extending your mortgage to do this to be honest - but maybe I'm a bit biased ;) Or ask a relative who wants to buy something for the baby, whether they would consider paying for this precious gift?
Whichever you decide to do, have a wonderful birth :)
