Advice regarding training / practise

Postby pollyh » Wed Oct 22, 2008 12:57 pm

Hello,

I'm after a bit of help and advice regarding training as a hypnobirthing practioner. I recently gave birth using the natal hypnotherapy tecniques to great success and have decided it is something I would like to become more involved in. I am unsure of which method to train in 'hypnobirthing' or 'natal hynotherapy'. I wondered if you could advise me how long you usually have to wait before a place comes up on a training course as my name is currently on a list - a month, six months, a year? Also, why are the courses not alowed to be taught over weekends? Once the course is completed is there a fee to be paid back to 'hypnobirthing' as part of a contract or are you there after a free agent? How many couples is an average no. attending a course in any one month? Also any other advice you have to offer would be very much appreciated

Hope you can help, Polly

Are you a midwife or a hypnotherapist? If not, I very much doubt you'd be able to train as HypnoBirthing Practitioner.

There are about six courses run each year, and it's on a first-come-first-served basis. If your name is on the list you'll just have to wait until the next dates are announced (I guess this will be in the New Year) and you'd have to grab a place while they're there.

Courses can be taught on weekends, but not in less than four or five sessions. It's two day courses that are the issue, really.

There is a fee payable to the HypnoBirthing Institute but it's minimal. I can't remember how much it is exactly - I'm sure someone else will be able to advise. The biggest cost is actually the books, CDs and other material.

I do about two or three couples a month, but it depends on how active you are and what the interest is in your area.

HTH.

Hi there.

The renewal fees are $70 per annum. Apart from that polly there are no fees payable to the HypnoBirthing Institute, we are self-employed and free agents, although we are bound by codes of ethics and agree to teach the course as we are taught it. I see about two couples per month at the moment on a one to one basis.

I don't know much about 'natal hypnotherapy' but am very much enjoying teaching HypnoBirthing. I come from a hypnotherapy background, I have a Dip Hyp and am on the NRH (National Register of Hypnotherapists) Like Scallie says to train in HypnoBirthing I think you either need to be a hypnotherapist, a birth professional such as midwife, or a HypnoBirthing mum ie one who took the course to birth your own baby.

Mickey has never set strict criteria for who can train , so if you wanted to check it out for yourself , best email her and she will ask you your motivations for teaching it .

Sorry polly I think Eleanor is right  I've just been looking on the website and it says that if you are neither a birth professional or a hypnotherapist you can train, but need to do six days training instead of four. You have to do the four day course as though you were a birth professional ie the i.e. 2-day Introduction to Hypnosis for Childbirth, followed by the 2-day Practitioner Certification.

Then, once you've completed that, you either have to attend the Birth Basics 2-day training at a later date (the recommended option), or purchase the homestudy version of the Birthing Basics course.

Emailing to ask to make sure sounds an excellent idea though :)
