|
|
I have a VBAC client and I cant seem to find any good VBAC stories to show her? I know Jenny Mullan mentioned she had a VBAC at the training - is her story anywhere we could use as it would be really wonderful to show clients.
Thanks,
Helen |

Hi Helen,
I noticed that you don't have any posts against this - not sure whether you have had any luck with people contacting you off board.
If you are stuck I had a VBAC under really challenging circumstances and had used hypnosis for birth cds from week 15, but not used HB. I was due to start HB classes the day I went into labour. I know that if I had used HB that it would have been even better than it was!
I'm happy to share if you need a story.

also have you tried the homebirth website for vbac stories-I know they aren't hypnobirthing (and your lady might not be planning a homebirth) but sometimes its useful to show people them anyway.

Hi
Here's a cut and paste from an email Jenny sent to some of the UK board members about how her second birth went:
| Quote: |
I'm delighted to announce the safe arrival of Grace Dorothy Mullan. She was born at 1:25pm on Thursday 26th May, weighing a whopping 8lb 13oz (4kg in new money).
My waters went at 11:25pm Wednesday 25th May, and within about 20 minutes I had surges coming two minutes apart. The midwife came and checked me over, and then went home for some sleep.
She said to call when I was into active labour, as I was only 2cm dilated at that point i.e. when the surges became stronger. She didn't think this would be until the morning. However, using HypnoBirthing, I was sure it was going to happen quicker than she thought.
Sure enough, within an hour, the surges were much stronger but I thought I'd be kind to the midwife and let her come back at 6:30am as planned. When she came back, her first question was "have they got any stronger?" - to which I was able to say "yeah, ages ago!". She did a quick internal and told me I was 5-6cm dilated.
While the midwife had been sleeping, I'd spent an hour or two in the bath, but after starting to get a very numb bum, we decided we really ought to inflate the birthing pool we'd got. I got into there around 3am, and that's where I stayed until I was ready to start birthing, which was about 12 noon.
Kate, the midwife, was great - she just sat and watched and let Gordon and I get on with the HypnoBirthing. Gordon was great - every time I surged, he used the shoulder anchor to send me even deeper into hypnosis.
Although I would say that the surges felt intense, I was able to slip into a very deep hypnosis in between, which really helped conserve my energy. Kate didn't do any more internals - she merely watched my breathing change and knew it was getting close to me wanting to breathe the baby down.
Unfortunately, the birth pool sprung a leak, and was starting to flood the front room floor, so I was advised to birth on dry land. Bizarrely, Kate kept asking if I wanted to go the toilet. I didn't need to at that point, but she insisted I went. What she wanted was to get me into the smallest room (in our case, our downstairs toilet) so that my birthing instincts could kick in.
I stayed there for what seemed like ages, with the desire to bear down coming frequently. What amazed me was that after the intense feeling of dilation, although the urge to bear down was compulsive it felt really comfortable!
From there, I moved to standing up in the hall, holding onto the spindles of the stairs, and then they walked me upstairs, which helped me progress nicely, and eventually onto the bed.
If you'd asked me beforehand, I'd have thought that birthing on the bed was the last place I should have been but the position I was in meant that I could push against Gordon and Kate, and Grace was born quite quickly afterwards.
It was a totally amazing experience when Grace came out - we were so thrilled to have a little girl! She gave a little squawk, but quietened down as soon as she was put onto my chest. We waited for the cord to stop pulsating and then Gordon cut the cord.
I had a delay in the expulsion of my placenta, as I refused syntometrin as I wanted everything to be as natural as possible. However, when Grace started to feed about an hour after the birth, the placenta detached fairly shortly after.
Both the midwives (Kate and Paula) were on a real high, as were we, and rang the consultant at Northampton General Hospital, who'd stayed on standby after his shift had finished to, in their words, 'crow'.
I know some of you are aware but for those of you who aren't, I went two weeks overdue with Joseph, had to be induced and after 15 hours of labour, ended up with a caesarean. To top it all off, the spinal didn't work properly, and I ended up having to have a general anaesthetic.
Although the HypnoBirthing worked really well for the 15 hours, I was obviously very disappointed with the outcome as I missed the moment of birth completely. So this time, I went against conventional medical advice and decided to give birth vaginally at home.
I haven't seen a consultant at all during the pregnancy, and am so pleased that Kate took me on as part of her caseload and agreed to support me in my choice. Apparently I'm the talk of the hospital, as a VBAC at home, and I've been told my credibility has gone even higher as a result.
Kate told the consultant that I was so relaxed, she couldn't tell with certainty when I was having a surge. Only an occasional flicker of my eyes in Gordon's direction gave it away. She said I gave the appearance of someone who was sleeping through the labour.
God bless Mickey - HypnoBirthing really does work!
Grace is an incredibly calm and peaceful baby. We thought Joseph was calm and slept well but Grace is even calmer and, at this stage, is sleeping even better. Last night, she slept for just over four hours at a time and hardly cries at all. She's absolutely beautiful and we love her to bits.

Hope that helps.
Best regards
Gordon |
