hi

I'm new to this site expecting our 1st baby in Feb have been doing hypnobirthing were on our 4 session of 5 .

I would love to have a waterbirth as have read a lot of people off various forums saying it makes a lot of differance.

Can hypnobirthing still be as effective, ie still manage easily to do light touch massage, etc

thanks

Yes it is still great to use in water. Your practioner should show you a few births in water from the HypnoBirthing dvd.

Yes absolutely, it's a perfect pairing! the water aids relaxation, lowers the incidence of tearing and helps boost oxytocin release. I've had two waterbirths using HypnoBirthing now, both of them were wonderful, I didn't need any pain relief at all and delivered my babies into my own hands.

Have an open mind though, Michel Odent (obstetrician credited for the invention of modern waterbirth) says that he hates that women plan a waterbirth, he says they become so fixated on delivering in/using the water that they don't listen to their bodies and can often actually prolong labour. So the key is listen to your instincts, if the water is calling out to you then get in, and whilst it's feeling wonderful to be in water then stay in, but if instinctively it doesn't feel perfect to be in the water then you are far better to remain on dry land.
