Hi, I am 35 weeks pregnant. we started HB at 20 weeks and just did our last session last week. I have 2 Cd's, the Erin Aldridge one and the rainbow one, and was wondering is there was anymore i can get hold of (someone mentioned Justina o'leary.. where can i find this?)
To be honest we have not been practicing everyday, but we always do a little something like perennial massage, light touch, breathing etc however I am just starting to panic a little, mainly as my husband is not confident and doesn't really know what he is meant to be doing. also most things don't work on me like the glove, balloons etc. i find it hard to go 'deeper'
Am I meant to be doing the Cd's everyday? i worry i will get bored of them and they wont work? can anyone advice me of what we should be doing everyday for the next 5 weeks, maybe someone has advice of a good plan???
I do practice my breathing, and can do the 4-8 and i can do the sleep breathing but only get to 10-10 sometimes if i try i can get to 12-12. is this normal i understand i should be getting to 20/20?
I would love to get some advice, i love my HB teacher but she seems to just think its OK that i am not confident with everything...
Thanks for listening to me ramble on!!!
Take care

Hi Lou,
Justina O'Leary recites the Rainbow relaxation CD, there is also a CD in the back of the book you were given which is definitely worth listening too.
I really do think you would be best getting in contact with your original practitioner again, she will know you best and you can chat through any fears you have or reasons why you are not totally confident. I always offer my clients the chance to come back for another couple of hours for a small fee, I would much rather a client contacted me telling me they weren't totally happy than worried in silence and not be convinced of the beauty of HypnoBirthing - as I'm sure your practitioner will feel too! I really would urge you to give her a call!
Re. the breathing, I always tell clients that the aim is not to reach a count of 8 or 20 (especially 20!) - but that it's the techniques themselves that matter - i.e: with sleep breathing the aim is to breathe out for approx twice as long as you breathed in for and for slow breathing you want a nice slow, loooong, relaxed breath - the individual numbers don't matter! for goodness sake don't get hung up on reaching 20, if you can naturally only get to 10 - then that's great! you'll find slow breathing is something you really need to practice too and you *will* get better the more you practice (envision filling up a big balloon in your belly as you do it!).
Re. what you *should* be doing, enjoying your pregnancy, bonding with your baby, looking forward to the birth with lots of great imagery. I recommend clients listen to the rainbow relaxation evernight in bed at least then whatever else they think they would like to use to practice with their partner.
Hope that helps but please call your practitioner!

Hi Lou
I am 38 wks at present and finished my class around 33 weeks - I have now been off work for one week and am finding it much easier to get into the cds and to relax more.
I think the classes taught me more than anything just to let go and not to worry too much - it's always difficult as there are times when 100 things go round your head. I have not always had a chance to do the pereneal massage every day but I have made a conscious effort to do the rainbow each day and at least five minutes each day of slow breathing (try it in the bath - I can always get more breath when really relaxing this way)
I read to my baby and talk to her constantly, telling her how much I am looking forward to meeting her. To be perfectly honest, I haven't done many exercises with my husband but I do know how much he will be part of the process, with massage and support throughout.
Although I have not been through the birth yet, I know that the classes and cds have helped me so much so far and worth every penny - it's totally changed my attitude to fear and release.
All I can suggest is to contact your trainer and get an extra session if you think you need it - alternatively, be easy on yourself - you are doing great and remember how far you have come

Thanks so much for your replies, you have helped me to stop worrying so much and just chill!!!
I am going to see my teacher for some reflexology so i will have a chat with her there to iron out any niggles.
I am off to do the rainbow!!
PS - what CD comes with the book? i have 2 Cd's the rainbow one and the Arron Aldridge one (the one with the waves and cove) is there anymore or is it just those 2???
Thanks Lou x |

the cds with the book are just affirmations and are also american - you will probably be best with the ones you have.

Hi,
I think a lot of HypnoBirthing is about is doing what "feels right" and not worrying about "what is right". Trust yourself. I could not breathe and think of the numbers- it seemed to confuse me so I used the word relax on the outbreath, saying it in my mind slowly progressing to saying it twice, slowly, as I got better at it.
