Practitioner or classes in or near Cumbria

Hi there, I'm expecting my 4th child this June and would like to take classes/learn about hypnobirthing. This hopefully will be my 2nd homebirth and I would like to learn more about relaxing my body so it experiences less 'pain'. I would also like my children around me whilst I labour and feel it would be beneficial for them if it wasn't such a painful experience.

Any help would be appreciated

Yes, thanks for your reply tho. That's how I found this forum. There seems to be lots of practitioners but not many in the North West!!

Have you looked at the UK website www.HypnoBirthing.co.uk? It has a listing of all practitioners. If there is no one in your immediate area, do get back to me.

Thanks very much for that...I had noted lots in the Lancashire area but presumably I will have to travel to them for classes? Do you know of any in Cumbria? Most of the ones you mention are a couple of hours drive away. Perhaps I will try the one in Preston and see what she can come up with.

It's worth contacting a few, I regularly see clients who live well over an hour away from me.

Some practitioners are willing to travel - or if there really is no other way that you could attend a course because of distance then as a special exception Mickey (Marie Mongan) allows the course to be condensed into less sessions (i.e: a full weekend) so that the travelling becomes less of an issue, I have done this for a client who lived 3hrs away from me and she stayed somewhere local to me overnight.

The list is the current, full complete list though - if there is nobody on there very close to you then Gordon will not be able to give you anymore contacts.

I was about to reply and then noticed Sarah had covered everything. I would just clarify one thing though.

Although Mickey allows the course to be done over a weekend in special cases, you do need to make sure that your practitioner is still doing the full 12.5 hours. Basically, it's OK to do it all in one go, but not to miss bits out.

It's either you travel or the therapist travels though - as Sarah said, that is the full current list.

Thank you all for your help, I've been in touch with Mercedes and she has offered to travel to us from Preston which is great.

Out of curiosity, when is it a good time to do the course? just before birth or much earlier on?

Usually we say earlier as you have more time to practice the techniques but I taught someone, she contacted me on the 19th of December, I fit 2 classes in before Christmas, then the rest between Christmas and New Year, she was 'due' on Jan 2nd, her baby arrived on the 4th Jan, very quickly and without any pain relief or problems. This lady was very motivated and practiced the techniques lots!
Basically it doesn't matter when you start, so long as you practice the techniques in the time you have.
