I am currently 26 weeks pregnant but will not be able to afford the classes until I'm about 30-32weeks pregnant. Is there a 'right' time to take the classes? I understand you need to practise your relaxtion etc after the classes, so if we had classes at 32weeks would we have enough time for home study to be ready for birth day?

my response would be that classes are a bonus anytime and when you have a shorter amount of time to practise youre motivation will ensure you work hard at it. if you complete the course around 36 weeks that gives you a month to practice which is perfect. 1 of my couples completed the course on thursday and the baby was born the following monday , despite the small amount of time they had to consolidate the course together , they still felt what they had learned was invaluable . i hope this is reassuring . eleanor

we started at 30 weeks and have had a two week break in the middle of our five weeks due to partner's work commitments, as long as you practice daily until the breathing and relaxation become second nature it should be okay, i do my affirmations in the morning on the way to work, and relaxation in the evening - i always go to sleep to rainbow relaxation. start daily practicing right after your first session, and if you can ask for the book in advance so you can read it up front and get nutrition and exercises underway immediately for example this will help reassure you. i went in with the book well read and it really helped us get focused class sessions. tell your practitioner your stage and they will hopefully tailor the course to you to go over most important things first to allow you sufficient time to really practice them. ours certainly covered things in the order we wanted leaving really focusing on birth breathing until our second last session (week 35) and fear release for our last (week 37) with the offer for further fear release if we would like it in the days running up to our due date or if we go over....

30-32wks would be just fine. I often teach couples who start at that gestation (somewhere between 28-32wks is average for my clients).

I guess I was just looking for reassurance that there isn't a 'right' time, and that I hadn't missed it, so thanks, I now feel happier knowing I am not leaving anything too late. Though I am a little concerned about the nutrition side of things, I do eat a varied diet but I'm far from being very healthy, hopefully as I read Mongan's Hypnobrithing book these issues will become clearer and I will feel more confident about it.

thankfully there isn't anything new or radical or even hugely expensive in there just your usual well balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables advise
hey i was uber healthy eater before getting pregnant but now i am so hungry all the time i end up snack attacking (biscuits and the other half's sweety cupboard) and have gone overboard for liquorice it is what has stopped my having any morning sickness at all i believe but also has contributed to my one size 10/12 hips being more like a 14 !!!
roll on baby so i can get breastfeeding and shift some of this and i plan to join a pram group where apparently we walk up to 3 miles per day ...
we do stop for coffee and cake on route though Smile

Well I had my first class at 29weeks, and have 3 more sessions, the last being when I am 36weeks.
I am very glad I chose to have one to one sessions rather than a weekend group class, as this way my partner and I get time to digest what we're read, and I get to practise my relaxation, which I am finding keeps sending me to sleep, but that's when I listen to it laid on my bed.

yes that was a reason we also went for one to one classes and practice between sessions is really useful our practitioner helps go over anything we are struggling with or helps us refine our technique on the next visit

Just wanted to point out that this is a good illustration of why Marie Mongan says that the course should always be taught over separate sessions, and not all in one go over a weekend.

It is extremely valuable for the couples to be able to practice between sessions, and go back with questions. And besides which, there's a lot to take in.

The only time it should be taught over a weekend is if there is not enough time to complete the course otherwise, or the couple have to travel several hours to a class, and even then it should still be taught as the full 12.5 hours.

Babybooming are attempting to do the course in less than a weekend for a considerable sum - this may work for some but I would prefer to take it at my pace.

I've found the rainbow cd and birth affirmations great for relaxing, and sleeping hehe We have our 2nd class tomz, I will be 34weeks on Wednesday, all going very fast but feel a lot better having practised some relaxation and reading lots Smile

I wish I had the chance to read the new book before giving birth just in case anything special in there
it is supposed to be even more UK focused as well
and some new scripts would have been nice, especially one for use during actual birthing itself
I also wish the scripts helped you to practice breathing i.e. went through it with you whilst in self hypnosis

The new UK book is out this week - 26th April. It can be ordered from our new UK shipping centre:
