Hello everyone. I had my second son using hypnobirthing almost a year ago. While the birth was much easier than my first, I have to admit I was petrified as it became more and more intense, and I did feel EVERYTHING although to look at me you may not have thought so. The midwives were amazed as they hardly had to do anything at all. My son was healthy and the birth was totally complication free, no tears or anything either, even though I pushed.
My point is that I really like the hypnobirthing beliefs and theology, and I want to train to be a practitioner, but I feel disappointed with myself that I didn't obtain the pain free birth that I worked so hard for, and how do I tell and teach others it can be pain free when the person they are learning from couldn't even do it?! I'd love to hear your advice and comments. Thanks. |

I've never told anyone that they will have a pain free birth! I always tell them they will feel something, tightening, pressure or something. I don't think that when you train you are told to tell people that it will be pain free, I think your practitioner was wrong if they sat there and promised you it would be, there are too many factors that can affect things on the day.
The birth of my second baby was pain free, the first I did have gas and air. I know it is possible to do it but I still don't tell people they will have pain free births.
Ultimately if you feel like you weren't being honest with the people, then I don't think you would be happy teaching it.
Anyone else got any thoughts regarding saying that people will have a pain free experience? |

Hi
Just wanted to point out that Mickey explicitly tells the practitioners NOT to describe HypnoBirthing as pain-free birth.
Yes, it can be for many women, but that's not really the aim. It's for a comfortable, natural childbirth that most mirrors Nature i.e. drug-free, with minimal or no intervention.
You are supposed to feel what's going on - it just shouldn't be excruciating pain. The uterine muscles are strong, and working hard, so tightening/pressure is to be expected.
Best regards
