Is it bad or good to have lots different HB cd's/systems?

I am currently reading or read and using the CD from marie Mongan's book - I am also booked on to a Marie Mongan hypnobirthing course and am having CDs in relation to that - guessing rainbow relaxation!

Then today I saw the following CD set second hand and thought hmm shall I try that too! I also have a hypnobirthing CD a friend gave me for twins which I love. Am I mixing it up too much if I also go for the Natal Hypnotherapy programme?

I would get the rainbow relaxation cd and stick to that. The more you practice different cds the less relaxed you will be-does that make sense, if you listen to one more you will be able to relax so much better to that one (you might even think you know it that well that you go to sleep-which is a good thing).

I read on netmums or mumenet or someone had been listening to the homebirth cd and ended up birthing in hospital she said she then felt that she couldn't listen to it as it reminded her it wasn't going to her birth plan and that it wouldn't work as it was the wrong environment. The rainbow relaxation can be listened to at home, in the pool, in hospital and even if your birth doesn't go according to the birth plan. Also why I have mentioned birth plans they should be birth preferences, what you would prefer but can be changeable if needed

The best advice I can give is don't start worrying that you havent done enough practice or you've listened to too few or too many CDs etc...one of my affirmations was to tell myself that " whatever I have prepared is enough for an easy, calm, relaxed and positive birth experience"... I was concerned that I hadnt practiced many of the relaxation sessions very often with my partner because of time constraints..and procrastinated from practicing until 4 weeks before the "due date"...I was getting worried about that until I met someone who did the same...we didnt end up doing any of the scripted relaxation practice because I didnt even feel the need to..and i ended up a week before the birth switching to the natal hypnotherapy cd and listened to that in the background during the birth..the music and relaxaton sessions are resources to use as and when you feel...as long as you go with the flow of how you feel at the time then you'll be fine..

I agree it helps to listen to a main CD but if you have several, you can always have them with you as a resource if you feel you need them at the time...and you will have a few relaxation excercises that you prefer or get on better with than others...you don't have to use them all or even any..the most important thing is to remain positive in your thinking, relaxed and calm...the music and relaxation sessions are just tools to help you achieve or maintain that...for me, the surge breathing was the most important bit, everyone's experience will be different and every birth you have will be different. There is no right or wrong way. You can't predict how it will be, so trust your body and do what feels right, if the music you were expecting doesnt do it at the time, try one of your backups...if you can stop each time you get concerned if you are preparing things right or whatever, take a deep breath and think "i already have what I need for a successful experience" then you have already achieved half the challenge of a hypnobirth (which is to remove anxiety and replace it with a relaxed body and mind!).. The other half is letting your body guide what you need to do...its hard to imagine at the moment, but you will know what to do if you let yourself believe it! Hope that helps!
