Hello to yorkshire hypnobirthing mums

Postby karen_26 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 5:49 pm

Hi

I'm interested in hearing from anyone in the Skipton/Leeds area who would like to correspond and maybe meet up for a coffee to chat about hypnobirthing.

I'm really excited about the birth. The worst part so far has actually been the one nCT class I've attended so far, freaked me out a bit with everyone discussing pain relief and how little information you're provided without asking. I'm having hypnobirthing classes and its all so much more positive and natural in the tone of conversation. Birth is a natural process and it makes so much more sense to keep it that way. I'm now considering a home birth too.

If you're interested let me know.

Hi Karen,

I've just read both of your posts and suspect that I might be the person your midwife's talking about! I live in Skipton, am due around the 30th Jan and have done the Hypnobirthing course.

I'd be happy to meet up for a coffee (soon!) if you're interested... :P

Hi to all

I am a practicing midwife living in Leeds and am thinking of undertaking the hypnobirth course. I was wondering if the ladies who are using the forum would mind taking one minute to let me have some idea of how readily and easy it was to find and access a hyponbirthing practitioner in Leeds? It would be useful to know if there is a demand for this service in the city and whether being a midwife would influence womens choice of practitioner.

many thanks

Hello Sarah

I can only tell you my personal experience. I found a few hypnobirthing practitioners in reasonable driving distance (I'm in ilkley) but I only had a couple of months to practise and the classes were booked for a few weeks so I had to have personal coaching, which worked out fine. My practitioner was from huddersfield and said she was very busy and that demand was on the increase and there were several practitioners in her area, all kept busy. In my NCT group there were about 6 couples and 2 of them had looked into hypnobirthing, so I'd say there is definately a demand.
As to whether or not being a midwife is a benefit, I would imagine for most women it is but I can't say for sure. Probably. Mine wasn't but she was very knowledgable and it didn't put me off at all.

I think that if you're interested that for the cost of training its worth the investment

Good luck!

Don't forget that if there isn't a practitioner in an area, or it's not been very well promoted, there may well be women who would be interested in HypnoBirthing, if they knew it existed.

There is definitely demand for HypnoBirthing nationally (we get thousands of visitors to our website every month), so in somewhere the size of Leeds, if you promote yourself through local media (newspaper articles, possibly radio and even TV) then you will almost certainly find clients.

As for being a midwife, we have a lot of midwives now training, and obviously they already have a passion for birth which really helps. That said, Jenny (my wife and one of the UK trainers) is one of the most experienced and sought after practitioners, and she is a hypnotherapist.

It really comes down to the passion you have, and the belief in the success of the method you can convey to potential clients (same as any therapy/service business really).

Hope that helps.

Best regards
Gordon
