Hello everyone!

Hi all, My name's Jacquie and I'm finally living the dream of being pregnant and looking forward to the birth of my first baby in October. I like the idea of HB and have always imagined I'd have my babies at home with minimal medical intervention. There's a spanner in the works though :( , my obstetric history is a bit long winded. Firstly, I've had fibroids and had to have an open myomectomy in 2007, meaning it's recommended I have a caesarean section when giving birth. Then I've also unfortunately suffered recurrent miscarriages and tests revealed a clotting disorder for which I've been on low dose aspirin for, and so far, thankfully this has worked. I'm only 14 weeks today but I've raised the subject with my midwife of wanting to try a natural birth first. She agrees that this is possible, but only if all goes to plan. It would have to be at the hospital too, and not even at the birthing centre, just in case labour does not progress as it should, meaning I'd be wheeled (I prefer to walk if I can, LOL) into theatre immediately. Now, this sounds like a plan and I'm okay with it. Of course that's better than a straight CS where the date is given and I leave home to have my baby operated out of me - I'd love to experience labour, it's only natural!

So, I'm here, looking forward to learn about HB and prepare my body for a natural birth, even though it may well not happen as I hope it will, but it's good to be prepared! Looking forward to getting to know all as I pray and hope for a very quick and straightforward labour come October!

Hi Jacquie,
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
This board is very very quiet so you may want to check out the hypnobirth group on baby center...

your previous myomectomy means you will be treated as a VBAC lady due to risk (minimal) of scar rupture, the clotting issues will compound the "high risk" care you will receive (extra monitoring, probably not allowed in a birth centre or birth pool, heavily recommended synto for 3rd stage etc...), neither issue is, on paper, a reason to not have a natural birth but obviously both present risks that may or probably won't happen.

Personally I would be looking into a homebirth and/or independent midwives in your scenario as perhaps the best way for you to get the natural birth you desire - see http://www.homebirth.org.uk. Also you don't say if you are attending classes or self teaching, but in your instance I'd really recommend going to face to face, preferably private, classes.

good luck!

Thank you both.

Lee, funny you should mention BC, I'm on there already and have joined the hypnobirthing board, though yet to introduce myself!

OckySmith - thanks for your honest answer. I'm looking into an IM but cost is an issue. A doula at the very least though. I've still not seen my consultant, and so far, so good, I kinda hope things progress so well there's no need for major consultant input, however, my midwife says i can have a 'labour trial' if the doctors 'agree'. I'll push for it though. If all goes well, then I'll be sure to try and keep it that way to the end.

I'd absolutely love a homebirth but if I'm honest, my family would be a major obstacle in me pursuing this. When i mentioned to DH that I'll be pushing for a normal delivery he said, '' no, no, see a doctor first, see what they suggest and do as they say''. I quickly told him they WILL push the CS - it's easy and predictable and once it's done, they'll hand me over to their juniors and nurses/midwives for the rest. I do not want that (I'm a nurse, and see it happening everyday at work!).

I've already contacted a local hypnobirthing lady near me, so hopefully will be able to sort out a face to face programme (hope she gets back to me soon!). Push comes to shove, I'll go to another good one I've seen in Kent.
