perfect friday night

Postby Danielle » Fri Jan 29, 2010 10:14 pm

Its Friday 29th January, 5pm, I'm making tea for my kids and my phone rings, it something like 'my wife’s in labour do you want to come', of course I do, I said call me back in an hour (unfortunately my partner is in Serbia, so I called my mum and asked if the boys could stay), then called the dad back and packed up the kids and I was on my way :)

The mum was doing brilliantly, as was the dad filling the pool and making cups of tea, so I sat with the mum (who apologised for not wanting to talk-mums you really don't have to talk or be social in labour). The mum got in the pool and continued to do beautifully, after a while she said the surges were getting harder (I can't remember the exact words), she was doing so lovely breathing-it was fab to watch, a few minutes later she said the baby’s head is coming, and had a bit of a show (I couldn't believe it was happening so fast), the midwives came in and then the baby came out, the baby came out a bit fast and was a bit shocked but ok. I arrived at 6pm and the baby was born at 7:20 ish. I think the mum had been in labour since lunchtime.

So 9:30pm I had helped pack the pool away and clear up and was back at home-a perfect Friday night. Thank you to the family for letting me go to their birth. I have been to a handful of births and don’t think I will every got over how magical it is. I could easily do it every Friday night!

Yay!

how lovely. :D :D :D
You'll have to train to become a doula! I'd recommend it.
Have an even better Saturday night!
