Jacob was born at home!

Postby Danielle » Wed Jul 26, 2006 9:03 pm

My second son was born at home on 25th May 2006. It was so amazing!
Very briefly this is what happened.
6:30 Woke up

7:00 Had a feeling that things were starting, but wasn't 100%. I called Chris, my partner and told him to come home. had breakfast with Josh and sat on the birth ball. Then my membranes released!

9:00 I was definitely having surges, I wondered if I should call the midwife. I rocked on the ball to help me relax.

11:00 Tasmin (midwife) and Sally (student midwife) arrived, Josh went to his grandparents. The midwives did the monitoring and blood pressure etc. Chris arrived home. It all seemed like a dream, I never thought it would happen at home! We all had cheese on toast for lunch, it was a bit like a picnic.

12:30 Jodie (student midwife) arrived! Surges were coming more regularly and last for longer. In between surges we chatted about everything from Big Brother to Shelia Kitzinger and HypnoBirthing and my birth pool. It was the midwives first HypnoBirth.

13:30 Second midwife, Andrea (my community midwife) arrived. She had been to a HypnoBirth before and was still a bit skeptical.

15:00 Chris got the pool ready and I got in.

15:20 After a few surges I got out! I found it hard to relax in the pool. So I went back to sitting on the ball.

16:00 (ish) I went to the bathroom and then decided to go on the bed. For awhile I lay on my back and everything slowed down. It was a really nice sleepy feeling. then Andrea encouraged me to move around. I got on my knees and held onto the bed frame.

18:45 Jacob was born! He had his cord round his neck and needed a bit of help but was fine-thanks to the midwives.

I would definitely have another homebirth, we had sort of planned on videoing but I was never doing anything, then when it would of been a good time to video it I wanted Chris to stay next to me.

I wish everyone could have births like Jacobs.

Hi Danielle

Let me be the first to congratulate you on a wonderful birth, and your new son Jacob.

It really does encapsulate everything HypnoBirthing should be - well done!

Warmest regards
