Visualization

Postby kharel » Mon Sep 29, 2008 6:16 am

Hi everyone.

I have been studying Hypnobirthing for 5 months and love it however I struggle to create visulizations in my head on my own without the CD on in the background.

I wondered if anyone else had the same problem and some ideas about what i can do to help?

Once I have the cd's on I am totally calm and feel much more in control - is it ok for me to just have them on continous play on my IPOD during labour?

I hope so, I'm planning to have them on continuous play! Have you checked if there is a CD player in the birthing room? If not be sure to take a charger and some headphones, I think my hubby will kill someone if he has to listen to rainbow relaxation more than once  you can get speakers that go under a pillow that are brilliant (if you are not having a water birth!)

I am taking some pictures with me that I found on the internet, I did a google image search for things that look like my visualisation (for me it is a forest in the autumn) so you could try that? Also take a bit of blue ribbon if you are doing that visualisation. Hope that helps :) Good luck!

Visualisation

Postby rjcg07 » Thu Oct 02, 2008 12:19 pm

Hello, I am a Hypnobirthing Instructor and used the technique for the birth of my daughter. During the labour I had the cd on constantly and found that I really heard the bits I needed when I needed them. I also used the cd of the music without the talking (Stephen Halpern Comfort Zone- available on Amazon) for a bit of a change. If there is other music you particularly relax to try that aswell. Visualisations can be enhanced with practice, try and sense the scene with all your senses, how does it smell? what does it feel like to touch? What sounds can you hear? Sometimes that can help intensify the scene Use whatever you find helpful and if your birth companion is getting fed up he can put on the Ipod and listen to something else! Experiment and see what works for you. There is no limit to ilistening to the rainbow relaxation.
Best wishes for your birth
Rebecca

Hi,
I concur with what others have said, but i just wanted to add that the visualisations are an optional tool for your "toolbox". Some people aren't very visual, but may find other things (like music or certain words) much more powerful.
Given that you are struggling to "see" the blue satin ribbons or the opening rose, either don't bother (and focus on the techniques that do work for you) or you could try to "imagine" the relevant part of your body being soft and giving. If that's better, start practicing, if not, leave it.
And yes - continuous play is great. Make sure some-one knows they are to keep pressing play, and don't forget those batteries!!
Good luck with it! And have a lovely memorable birthing day. :D :D
