Visualisation for slow breathing

Postby Lillylemon » Fri Jun 18, 2010 2:31 pm

Hi,

I recently finished my course and have been practicing the different types of breathing. My teacher suggested visualising my tummy blowing up like a balloon and then it floating away but I've been having trouble with the floating away part. I just can't get my head around it. Is it supposed to be the sensations floating away? Is there something else that anyone could suggest using instead? I am ok with the balloon blowing up but feel like I visualise it deflating again and I don't know if this will be detrimental at the time. Could I visualise it deflating and the breath pushing the baby down or opening my cervix more?

How about giving the balloon a colour? Then you can visualise the colour getting lighter as the balloon inflates and enlarges - as real ones do - and darker again as it deflates. I often use this with mums :)

If you want to visualise it deflating then thats fine, I always like to imagine them floating off, sort of like when you let one go outside. There is no 'right' way. WHen I had my first baby I imagined I was riding a wave during each surge-I have no idea where the imagine came from it just did and it felt right so thats what I did-while doing the surge/slow breathing.

Hi,
Like Danielle says, visualising the deflation is perfect - I often suggest that in class anyway.
Your mind is unconsciously doing just the right thing! :D
