Problem relaxing

Postby Shifter » Thu Feb 19, 2009 11:50 am

I've been practising with my CD in the evenings for some time now but recently, as I near the end (37 weeks today!) and become generally more uncomfortable I am finding it more difficult to relax properly. I sit propped up in bed to practice but I sometimes find that in this position my legs feel very dull and restless and it disturbs my practice.

Does anyone have any tips for getting through this as I am starting to worry that I will have serious problems with the contractions on the day.

Many thanks

Perhaps you could try practising in the lateral position? The one lying on your side? That might be better for you.

Thanks, yeah it is better on my side. I suppose I just feel I ought to be able to relax in any normally comfortable position!

Well lateral position is very comfy when you're in late pregnancy as it's the position most pregnant mums find the easiest to sleep in! 8) I would use whichever feels the best to help you achieve the relaxation you need to practice.

I have been experiencing exactly the same thing. I will be 37 weeks on Friday and I am finding it increasingly difficult to reach the relaxed state I could easily achieve several weeks ago. The lateral position doesn't seem to make any difference.

It's off and on for me now, sometimes I find it easier propped up on my back, other times on my side. I have to say though that lying on my side is not at all comfortable, not for long anyway! My hip and shoulder get very painful, requiring frequent rolling over, dragging all of my supporting pillows with me. Sleep has not been easy for quite some time. It's been like that for a couple of months now, but it's either that or get the twitchy leg thing when propped up and I find it hard to get to sleep propped up.

Weaholt - I have found that practising only every other day, rather than every day has helped.
