older mother's experience of hypnobirthing

Postby Pia » Fri Apr 21, 2006 7:44 pm

Hi, i have two questions:
1. I'm wondering about experiences of first births at 43 (yrs old) using the HB technique. My age is my biggest fear, as this my 1st birth.
2. I'm trying to find a way to do the HB course in the Netherlands (I'm Australian, recently moved), but as there seems to be only one certified practitioner here, who is very busy and also soon to leave the country on holidays, I'm starting to wonder if there are other ways to do it?
I assisted over the years at 3 of my sister's births, and watching her pain has left a memory! The births turned out fine, although each baby was distressed, to varying degrees, at the end. But I really want my baby to experience her voyage in a way that isn't hindered by my fears or resistance.
Any ideas or advice welcome.

Hi Pia,

Your age is really irrelevant, no reason why your experience should be any different to any other woman, no matter the age! I would go so far as to say that you might find it even more succesful for you as you sound like you will have the dedication to practice it regularly.

If you can't find a practitioner you could try the book, available from Amazon (it comes with a free CD) and then perhaps see a registered hypnotherapist for any areas you think you need extra work with.
