MIDWIVES AND PUSHING VS BREATHING DOWN

Postby hollyping » Sun Apr 04, 2010 10:16 am

My patner is concerned that , the midwife will ask us to push and his job of requesting the breath down will turn into a confrontation . We are going to a nice centre where they have had many hypno bith but he is worried that the midwife wont listen to him . What happens ladies ? Do they just let you get on with it or do they interfere ? many thanks Holly

I have exactly the same concern. I will be birthing in a hospital and unfortunaty where I live, I am not followed by the same obstetrician until birth. Basically, I have been receiving my follow ups from my family physician until week 36. Then I see a different obstetrician every week until birth.

The obstetrician that will attend my birth may never see me prior to, which worries me as far as having my birth wishes respected. I have my first appointment with one of the many obstetricians I will see next week so I will bring up my hypnobirthing plans with him/her and see what kind of reaction I get.

I really do not want to hear "You're now 10cm dialated so you need to start pushing!".

if you are going to a birth centre , you shouldnt hear the word push , as midwives who choose to work there see births where no pushing is done , and babys arrive easily .they know telling women to push isnt needed .
if you are worried about a confrontation it will likely come true so instead it would be best to assume you will be fine during your labour , intuitive and calm using your breath and relaxation with your husbands support .
you could always add a line about it on your birth preferences sheet too .
