Ireland - How many classes?

Postby soniab » Thu Jul 13, 2006 7:24 pm

Hello I am interested in hypnobirthing but the two teachers I've contacted in south dublin where I live said I only need to do 3-4 classes because it depends on my personality type - the more laid back you are the less classes you need.

When I looked on the hypnobirthing website it says the classes are 5 classes at 2 1/2 hours long. Do I need the full 12 hours or can I just do a few? Will it work if I only take 3. The woman who is teaching the full 12 hours lives miles away from me so thats not an option.

Thanks for your help

Are you sure it's proper "HypnoBirthing"? All HypnoBirthing is 12.5hrs of training, sometimes it's taught in fewer (longer) sessions, but in total it should always be 12.5hrs and you do really need to cover it all - regardless of personality type!

I often have clients who travel for over an hour to get to me, maybe worth considering?

Hi Sarah,

Yes they are teaching the real thing as I found them through the hypnobirthing web site. (I specifically want REAL hypnobirthing) It really doesn't make sense for me to have to travel a great distance if these teachers are supposed to be teaching the entire series already. KWIM ?

Is it just up to the teacher themselves to decide how long their course will be ? Is there some kind of regulatory body that I can contact or association who can give me more information?

Hi Sonia,

No "The HypnoBirthing Course" is 12.5hrs long, as I said sometimes it's not taught in 5 individual sessions as sometimes it's easier for everyone to teach over 4 sessions say, but I've never heard of not teaching it all because of certain personality types.

This is the official UK website, the official US one is www.hypnobirthing.com all I can suggest is that you maybe phone the practitioners offering shortened courses and request they teach you in full.

Short courses

Postby gordon_mullan » Fri Jul 14, 2006 7:56 pm

Hi

Sarah is absolutely right.

The HypnoBirthing course is 12.5 hours long and must, regardless of number of sessions, be taught in its entirety. There is no discretion on this on the part of the practitioner and certainly not 'dependent on your personality type'.

If you are being offered less than 12.5 hours of instruction, please let Marie Mongan know. You can email her on hypnobirthing@hypnobirthing.com.

The HypnoBirthing Institute is the 'regulatory' body and Mickey (Marie) needs to know if practitioners are not adhering to the practitioner agreement/code.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

Best regards
Gordon
