Husband receiving the baby

Postby sjlaw » Mon Oct 31, 2011 5:08 pm

My Husband would really like to receive the baby, or at least be the person to place baby on my chest. Our midwife isn't keen at all on the idea, and I was wondering if anybody here has done this or has any advice to reassure the midwife that Husband doesn't want to deliver the baby himself!

This thing to remember is that you have the right to request this. I would ask your midwife what her concerns are and ask questions around those, hopefully this will help her think a bit more 'out of the box'.

FYI

We saw the midwife again yesterday, and after just making a small change to wording (from "receive the baby" to "place baby on Mum's chest") she was much happier. But she did suggest that during birthing a midwife would be able to guide Husbands hands so he can help deliver... Which is much more than we expected after her first reaction!
