Hi there,

I've just started my Hypnobirthing class and am loving it. My concern though is that in the book they highlight how important it is to find care providers that embrace HypnoBirthing. At my assigned NHS hospital, Kings College, you just end up with whichever midwife is on duty at the time of your labour which makes me nervous, and I don't think at Kings they have a midwife led birth centre.

The cost of an indepedent midwife is prohibitive so I wanted to know from anyone who has given birth with HypnoBirthing at Kings and what the experience was like.

I think that the reason that they highlight this is because in america you have a lot more choice, my sister in law talked about interviewing the doctors before signing up with one.

I live in the Midlands and have never really had any opposition from a midwife, they may have been skepitcal but always let me and the mums I have been with do what I/they wanted. When I teach couples I do say that if they are getting really negative vibes from a midwife then ask for another.

Ask your teacher if they have taught other couples who have been their and if they have then hopefully it won't be something new to the midwives there...

Why not have a homebirth? the birth will be on your terms, in familiar surroundings. Have a look at www.homebirth.org.uk for lots of great information and homebirth stories.

Thanks so much for your advice. I've spoken to my actual midwife already who hasn't had much/any experience with HypnoBirthing however seems open to it. She definitely won't be at the actual birth and it's just not knowing who will be - the joy of the NHS. I have spoken to another senior midwife at my hospital since I posted this and she did say that generally the hospital is open to as natural birth as possible if that's what we want - so I'm feeling a bit better.

I had considered the Home birthing idea but although I hope to have a natural/HypnoBirthing birth as much as possible we have had a few mediacl problems on both sides of the family so feel I should be at the hospital just in case - at least for my first birth!
