I don't know if this means it's working or not but I just cannot stay awake during the affirmations or rainbow relaxation, is this normal?
My concern is that i'm not really absorbing it? I've tried listening to it at night, in the day, in the morning and every time I fall asleep!
Fingers crossed that it's a good thing?
Thanks in advance for any tips. |

I was told not to worry about this - apparently it still works on a subconscious level. I was surprised because in yoga you are meant to be totally relaxed and absorbed in it, but not asleep. I think it is meant to be better if you drift off than if you are consciously listening to it though because otherwise you are not pushing beyond the 'ration' part of your brain. I hope this helps |

That's a good sign! it means you're relaxing really really well and drifting into either a really deep alpha state or a lighter theta state - you can "learn" in both states, albeit not consciously so it will definitely all be absorbed.
So if it sends you to sleep now it'll be great during labour won't it?!
The affirmations aren't actually hypnotic in nature, you'll probably find it's the background alpha music sending you to sleep - which again is great as it shows the conditioning to it is working.
I actually revised for my degree finals in my sleep! (and did really well!). |

gosh sleep during rainbow relaxation is some feat!
but yes i too fall asleep when practicing my hypnotherapy sessions and i do believe i absorb them subconsiously
and even if all i get is intense relaxation that can't be bad in this hectic life |

Thanks everyone for your replies - I found your comments really helpful and I'm not so nervous now that I'm not absorbing the words.
I can never really tell if i've been asleep or not. When I listen to the affirmations and try to repeat them in my head I find that I can't remember what she has just said 2 seconds ago......it's very weird. I don't know what state of mind you call that?!?
My maternity leave starts next week so I will be increasing my practice for sure.
thanks again
Karen

Thanks Babyboos - Did you find that was enough time? I think I have about 4 weeks to get practicing constantly.
