J Breathing and Scripts/Prompt help please!

Postby Saffron » Sun Oct 30, 2005 9:24 pm

Hi everyone!

My husband and I attended full weekend private HB course (which was fab!) when I was about 23 weeks pregnant. I'm now 38 weeks (where has all the time gone?!) and would just like to clear up a couple of queries if anyone could help!!

I understand the concept of the 'J breathing' during birthing instead of pushing but what do you do when you need to stop 'bearing down' as the baby's head crowns in order to help stop the perineum tearing? I know in the hospital they will just say to me 'pant pant pant girl!' but I'm unsure what breath I should be using to stop myself pushing the baby on out!

As in another post, could anyone suggest exactly what should be put onto prompt cards for my husband to say? I've got both editions of the HB book but I can't find much in the way of prompts to copy out for him to read out to me. Any suggestions/scripts would be a great help! We have the rainbow relaxation and the a couple of others from the book but there doesnt seem to be any actual prompt ideas or further scripts for him. (we've bought a Spike Milligan book for him to read as my HB practitioner said comedy is great to use!!! - should make the midwives laugh! :D )

Many thanks in advance - not long to go now!!....

Prompts

Hi

Can't answer about how to stop bearing down but as far as prompts are concerned, your practitioner should have provided this to you.

It's in the teacher syllabus, and they should copy this (along with the scripts, etc.) and give it to you as part of the course.

I'm sure if you ask them, they'll send you a copy. I'd also suggest asking them the question about how to stop bearing down, though I'm sure one of our practitioners will be along shortly and can answer it too.

Best regards
Gordon
